About Iyengar Yoga

Iyengar Yoga was designed by B.K.S. Iyengar with specific attention to alignment of the structures of the body. It is a challenging as well as therapeutic style of yoga that uses props to assist any body shape, age, and fitness level so that everyone can receive the health benefits of yoga.

B.K.S. Iyengar (1918-2014) is considered the world’s foremost authority on yoga. His work influenced most other yoga systems taught in the west today. In 2004, Time magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world.

Iyengar Yoga is considered the most anatomically correct method because there is emphasis on proper alignment of the body with gravity. As the practice is developed, the poses are maintained for longer periods of time and this creates physiological well being and a connectedness with our own body and mind.
